The USDA Center for Nutrition Policy and Promotion (CNPP) works to improve the health and well-being of Americans by developing and promoting dietary guidance that links scientific research to the nutrition needs of consumers. CNPP is an agency of USDA's Food, Nutrition, and Consumer Services.

• October 16, 2009: Washington, DC: USDA and HHS announce dates for the 4th Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee Meeting and Solicitation of Written Comments.
• September 15, 2009. Alexandria, VA: CNPP launches Growing a Healthier You: Nutrition from the Farm to Your Table as part of the Know Your Farmer, Know Your Food USDA initiative.
• September 15, 2009. Alexandria, VA: CNPP launches the MyPyramid Ten Tips Nutrition Education Series with tips on cutting back on salt, being a healthy role model for children, and following a vegetarian diet.
• August 4, 2009. Washington, DC: Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack today released a report, Expenditures on Children by Families, 2008, also known as the Cost of Raising a Child.
• July 8, 2009. Washington, DC: Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack announced the appointment of Dr. Rajen Anand as Executive Director of the Center for Nutrition Policy and Promotion.
• April 14, 2009.  Washington, DC: USDA and HHS announce dates for the 3rd Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee Meeting and Solicitation of Written Comments.
• April 6, 2009. Alexandria, VA: CNPP releases Nutrition Insight 43: The Quality of Children's Diets in 2003-04 as Measured by the Healthy Eating Index-2005.
• February 17, 2009. Washington, DC: President Obama signed the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act in an effort to jumpstart the US economy. USDA was appropriated $28 billion (3.5%) of the package.
