Tomatoes

 
 
Tomatoes are an excellent source of vitamin C and a good source of vitamin A, potassium, fiber, and lycopene.

 

Deep, rich colors of tomatoes indicate they are rich in lycopene, believed to have cancer-fighting abilities. According to the National Cancer Institute, lycopene has shown to be helpful in reducing the risk of certain types of cancer, especially prostate cancer.
 
In 1893 the U.S. Supreme Court ruled whether tomatoes, considered as provisions, were classed as "vegetables" or as "fruit" within the meaning of the Tariff Act of 1883. The Court ruled that tomatoes were vegetables because of usage in the meal.
